Nominees sought for Women’s Day awards

Staff report

Know a Jefferson County woman who deserves recognition for her volunteer efforts, or an innovative woman who is a model for other women striving to make their dreams a reality in politics, government or the public or private sector? Nominate them for the Unsung Heroine or Shattered Glass award.

The winners will be recognized at the fourth annual JeffCo International Women’s Day celebration March 8 at Baldoria on the Water in Lakewood. Nomination applications, which are due no later than noon, Feb. 8, can be found at www.ixpowerfoundation.org/women-s-day/unsung-heroine-shattered-glass-award-2019-applications/

JeffCo International Women’s Day is an official International Women’s Day event. The Title Sponsor for this year’s event is SCL Health Lutheran, and the City Sponsor is the City of Golden.

Recognition of Jeffco’s Unsung Heroine and the winner of the Shattered Glass award are just two of the elements of this annual event, which complements the global International Women’s Day celebration March 8 every year. Other activities for the day in the county include a series of speed seminars on various topics of interest to today’s busy women, a showcase of local businesses and organizations, and the luncheon itself. The luncheon will feature a keynote speaker, speed seminars, a Women’s Day market, door prizes, swag bags and more.

Jeffco merchants owned or operated by a woman, or featuring a product or service for women, have the opportunity to participate in International Women’s Day with a coupon or flyer about a special discount or deal to mark the day. Offers will be included in guest bags that will be at each seat at the luncheon. Additionally, special deals for Women’s Day will be promoted online and in other advertising where appropriate. For information about becoming a Women’s Day merchant, visit: www.ixpowerfoundation.org/women-s-day/special-merchant-offers-for-women-s-day-2019/. This website page also includes information for donating door prizes and purchasing a vendor table in the Women’s Day market place.

Sponsorships featuring a number of benefits, and individual registrations, are still available for the March 8 luncheon. However, space is limited and “early-birds” are rewarded with lower registration prices. More information about sponsorships and reservations can be made by visiting the above website.

The event is expected to sell out in advance again this year.

International Women’s Day first emerged at the turn of the 20th century in North America and across Europe and the first time it was observed nationally in the U.S. was in 1909. The Charter of the United Nations, signed in 1945, was the first international agreement to affirm the principle of equality between women and men. The United Nations’ theme for the women’s initiative is “Planet 50-50 by 203
